Delivering
the Gospel to Vancouver, British Columbia
Pastor
Brett Swope:
I
was not raised in a Christian home, but I was always taught to value
the Bible and respect it. We believed that we were Christians because
we believed in God, but we did not go to church or attempt to draw
near to God at all.
During
my teenage years I lived life as if there was no God, but could
never escape His reality. Because my family professed to know Him
I also knew the Gospel, and on June 4th 1998 the guilt of sin was
to strong, and the Lord saw fit to show me the Saviour. I trusted
in the Lord on that day and followed the Lord in baptism a few weeks
later.
The
day I was saved the Lord gave me a strong burden for change, I have
always believed that if someone was a Christian that they were supposed
to serve God! It was this burden that the Lord used to lead me to
West Coast Baptist College where He called me to preach in my first
semester and to the foreign field on Oct. 11th 1999.
The
Lord allowed me to spend my missions internship in British Columbia
Canada and used that trip to lead me back here to serve Him. While
in Canada I became acquainted with someone who would share in Gods
calling with me, but the Lord did not let me in on this secret until
after I had surrendered to return to Canada.
I
graduated from WCBC in May 2002 and came straight to the field unsupported,
as the Lord has allowed opportunity I have returned to raise my
support a little bit at a time. I married my best friend on June
4th 2004 and she joined me in reaching out to this very needy area.
Dianna
Swope:
I
was born in the Philippines and grew up in a very devoted catholic
home. All we knew was that if we were good enough and prayed to
the idols then we could go to heaven.
One
day my moms best friend sat down with us and told us that
we should try to have a bible study with her pastor. So on July
24th 1993 she and her pastor came to show us the Gospel. It opened
my parents eyes to the truth of the Word of God, and they trusted
Christ that day.
I
was only 10 at the time and told myself that I didnt want
to go to hell so I prayed with them. Well 2 years later, my family
and I moved to Canada and immediately found a Baptist church to
attend.
We
faithfully served Him but something was missing, I began to think
about my salvation and couldnt sleep at night as the doubt
overwhelmed me. Finally, on Nov. 28th 1998 God saved my soul and
I surrendered to go to Bible college.
I
went to West Coast Baptist College and soon after the Lord broke
my heart for missions. I had a burden to go back to my home church
which is a missions work, but I determined to follow Gods
will wherever it would lead me.
Toward
the end of my freshmen year God called Brett to Canada and he began
to show an interest in me, I think that God was just waiting for
me to surrender to Him before He allowed me to have the desire of
my heart. We were married on June 4th 2004 and praise God for the
opportunity to serve Him in Canada.
Together:
Most
recent news is that God has seen fit to give us a baby! and Dianna
should be due sometime in early November.
"For
so hath the Lord commanded us, saying I have sent thee to be a
light of the gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto
the ends of the earth."
Acts 13:47
